Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of characters who will split off from the main group to embark on their own adventure, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the team reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.
